We're excited to share that our lab has been awarded a new grant from the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) to develop the most exciting MEMS turbulent flow sensor we've built yet — one designed to dive into the smallest possible scales of turbulence.
Turbulence cascades energy down to its smallest, dissipative scales — the Kolmogorov microscales — where the physics is richest and the hardest to measure directly. Existing sensors are either too large, too slow, or too intrusive to resolve flow structures at that end of the spectrum. This project builds on our ongoing MEMS flow-sensing work, developed with Prof. Slava Krylov's laboratory, to push resonant micro-beam and bistable sensing concepts toward that regime.
The goal: a sensor small, fast, and sensitive enough to sit inside the turbulence itself, rather than merely observing it from the outside.
We'll be sharing progress on the design, fabrication, and first measurements here as the project moves forward. Grateful to the ISF for the support, and to the students and collaborators who will make this happen.
