Objects crossing stratified layers of the ocean or stratified atmosphere (layers of different density due to temperature or salinity, for instance) experience forces specific to this situation. This is due to an effect of a so-called caudal wake - some amount of a fluid from a different density layer, dragged with an object. The force is a topic of our research, see pages of Dr. Lilly Verso, Marco Boetti and Liron Simon.
